Your Toxic Workplace Makes Healing Trauma Harder
I have seen it again and again – folks come to me who need support for a devastating loss or for a history of trauma. They have stress in so many areas of their life – especially their job.
At work, they are invalidated, overworked, gaslit and treated like they are invisible (just to name a few). This mirrors the trauma they are trying to survive, and so little processing on deeper issues can be done because we are always talking about work and how to navigate that toxic environment while constantly being triggered – triggers that we do not have the time or energy to address because we are only focusing on work issues!
And so folks continue to spin and spin, not truly getting the deeper answers, because we have run aground in the shallow waters of a toxic workplace.
Sometimes folks fall into a workplace like this because it feels familiar – feels just like the toxic home life or marriage or history that they come from. They are sometimes shocked when I point out the parallels!
But here’s the truth: in order to really start healing…
YOU NEED ANOTHER JOB
People often just move from one trauma environment to another – without realizing how much trouble they are in or that healing is even possible. Barely surviving becomes their Normal – but it is not Normal.
Here are three things you need to know:
✳️ You are not stuck in that toxic and crushing situation.
✳️ Once you climb out, you will be shocked to look back and see how much trouble you were in.
✳️ Finding a new job can be the first step to getting your head above water.
Once you are clear of that workplace that was crushing your soul, then we can do a deep dive into some healthier processing of your wounds and the true healing can begin.
Work somewhere with a better company culture:
✳️ Where you are valued and appreciated.
✳️ Where you can stop working 60, 70, 80 hours a week for no recognition or compensation.
✳️ And where you can feel no stigma about making mistakes, taking time off or getting health support, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
You deserve to heal and shift and soar and celebrate – staying in a toxic workplace will only serve to keep you small.
Let’s get you out of there and into a better place – then we can truly breathe into the Trauma Healing you need.
